Golf scramble returns

The Independence Park weekly golf scramble makes its return on March 14.

Lady Apaches lost district opener

The Gonzales Lady Apaches opened District 29-4A with a 3-0 loss against La Vernia on Friday, Feb. 21. Gonzales then took on Yoakum on Tuesday. The Lady Apaches host Pleasanton on Friday, March 1, before traveling to La Vernia to face the Lady Bears again on March 5.

Gonzales boys soccer begin district unbeaten

The Gonzales Apaches traveled to La Vernia, beating the Bears 4-1. Gonzales hosted Yoakum on Tuesday, beating the Bulldogs 4-1. The Apaches (2-0) travel to Pleasanton (1-1) on Friday, March 1, before hosting La Vernia (1-1) on Tuesday, March 5.

 

Luling Eagles knocked out of playoffs

The District 27-3A champion Luling Eagles were knocked out the playoffs in the area round by #6 SA Cole, losing to the Cougars 56-38. 

 

Two Luling lifters take second

The Luling Eagles boys powerlifting team traveled to Del Valle to compete in the 24th Annual Del Valle Invitational. Of the six lifters who competed, two Eagles placed second in their weight division. Azreael Valle lifted a total of 1,345 pounds in the 275-pound weight division. Taking first was Steven Ansumana of Dripping Springs with his total of 1,410. Superheavyweight Jonathyn Murry placed second with his total of 1,645. He was bested by Elgin’s Jordon Hood who had a total of 1,670 pounds.

Other lifters include 114-pound David Zamora with a seventh-place total of 455 pounds, 148-pound Taylor Stein took 13th with 675, 198-pound Braden Bujnoch took 10th with 980 and 242-pound David Amaro took 10th with 790.
