Shirley Jean Dozier, 83, of Gonzales, passed away, Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016. She was born Jan. 19, 1933 in Climax, Georgia, the daughter of Andy and Odessa Bailey Dragoin. She married Marcellus Cosby Dozier Jr. June 11, 1963 in Midland City, Ala.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church and the Belmont Ladies Club. She was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, loved dogs— especially poodles — enjoyed reading, crocheting and collecting angels and cookbooks.

She is survived by daughter, Lisa Sue Speed and husband Thomas of Liverpool, England; step-daughters, Michelle Lee Kimsey and husband Edward of Vail, Ariz. and Dawn Renee Deppe and husband Richard of Washington, Missouri; sons Gerald Bruce Long of Tallahassee, Fla., Walter Anthony “Sonny” Long and wife September of Victoria and William James Long of Adel, Georgia; brother, William Dragoin and wife Carlanda of Americus, Georgia; nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters Beth Long Stewart and Cathy Long Stuck; sister Peggy Walsh and brother Anthony Dragoin.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11 at Seydler-Hill with interment following at the Gonzales Masonic Cemetery. Arrangements under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home 906 St. Paul Street in Gonzales.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Belmont United Methodist Church, the Belmont Ladies Club or Gonzales Pet Adoptions.
