Gonzales ISD officially made John Schumacher the district’s superintendent in a special meeting on Monday. Before making the official motion, Gonzales ISD Board President Glenn Menking addressed the crowd, thanking Dr. Kim Strozier, who agreed to stay on as an administrative consultant, for her time at the school district.

“I would like to briefly thank Dr. Strozier for her nine years of ‘blood, sweat and tears,’ as we say, through all we have done,” Menking said. “We appreciate all her efforts through these years, and we appreciate her time the next two months of aiding with the transition to the new regime. We wish you well.”

The board then voted unanimously to employ Schumacher as the new superintendent and soon after, Schumacher and Strozier switched chairs to indicate the changing of the guard.

In other business, the board approved the following resolutions:

  • Relocation expenses for the new superintendent of schools
  • Designating Schumacher as the investment officer for the district, since board policy requires the superintendent to take on that role
  • Amending the authorized representatives for TexPool by replacing Dr. Strozier with Schumacher from the list.
