The Nixon-Smiley CISD school board met on Nov. 13 and discussed agenda items including financial reports, nominating representatives to the appraisal district and a non-resident student policy.

The financial reports for the district reflect the revenue and expenditure through the end of the preceding month of operation. Board policy requires that the tax collector prepare and submit a written report for all taxes collected during the preceding month.

Through October 2017, 4.55 percent of the 2017 adjusted tax levy had been collected. Through October 2016, 5.25 percent of the 2016 adjusted tax levy had been collected.

At the end of October 2015, 2.15 percent of the 2015 adjusted tax levy had been collected.

The board also nominated Bud Box, Lauren Clampit, Sue Gottwald, Craig Hines and Josie Smith-Wright to serve on the Gonzales County Appraisal District Board of Directors for the term of office beginning on Jan. 1, 2008 and ending on Dec. 31, 2019.

The district also announced that non-resident students will not be permitted to attend NSCISD schools effective 2018-2019 school year. A nonresident district employee may request that his or her child be admitted into district schools by filing an application with the superintendent. Transfers shall be granted for one regular school year at a time, on a tuition-free basis.

The administration will send letters and transfer request forms to the parents of all non-resident students who had been approved to transfer to NSCISD for the current school year.
