Local saloon owner Karen Jacobs has been appointed to the Main Street Advisory Board. Jacobs and her husband Keith Carter both have a vested interest in the Main Street Program, after spending a lot of time and money rehabbing and reopening the Long Branch Saloon, on the St. Lawrence Street side of Texas Heroes Square.

Main Street Program Administrator Barbara Friedrich said Jacobs volunteered during the Main Street Summer Concert Series and is interested in seeing downtown Gonzales prosper.

"I am excited to be a part of Main Street, one of the organizations of volunteers who work hard to help Gonzales be a fun and entertaining place to live and visit," Jacobs said.

Jacobs participated in her first meeting on Tuesday night and said she took away a lot of knowledge from the group.

Back in September when city council appointed and reappointed members to the Main Street Advisory Board, a position was left open. The position was advertised in August and an application was received from Jacobs. The appointment was approved unanimously.
