Sales tax revenues continue to climb

After more than a year of declines in sales tax revenue, Gonzales County has been seeing some increases.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced has sent cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $668.3 million in local sales tax allocations for September, 6.2 percent more than in September 2016.

Gonzales Country received an allocation of 4182,570.75 this month, for a year to date total of $1,640,597.64. This allocation is 55.64 percent more than the $103,103.14 received in September of 2016, but 22.92 percent less than the $229,840.80 received in September of 2017.

The City of Gonzales received a September allocation of $206,454.87 for a year to date total of $1,107,432.37. This allocation is 21.69 percent higher than the September 2016 allocation of $166,062.56; but, it is down 9.65 percent from the September 2015 allocation of $227,386.30.

The City of Nixon received a September allocation of $22,988.43 which is 6.72 percent higher than the allocation of 21,493.56 at this same time last year. In 2015 the allocation of $29,090.90 was 23.44 percent higher.

The City of Smily received an allocation of 3,505.51, which is 92.6 percent higher than the allocation of $1,28.52 received in September of 2016 and up 48.65 percent from the $2,133.84 received in 2015.

The City of Waelder saw a 10.24 percent decrease when they received an allocation of $3,417.80 this month. In September of 2015 the city received $4,198.21, which was 20.49 percent higher than this month's allocation.

These allocations are based on sales made in July by businesses that report tax monthly.
