Ruby Bond Marrou

Ruby Bond Marrou, 81, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6. Ruby was born Nov. 29, 1936 in Yoakum to V.O. Bond and Grace Branham Bond. She graduated from Gonzales High School with the Class of 1955. Ruby married her high school sweetheart, Leslie Ross Marrou on Nov. 21, 1959, a union that would span 51 years before Leslie passed away in 2010. Ruby was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bishop and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Ruby and Les moved to Bishop in 1962 as he began to work in the egg hatchery business. Ruby managed the bookkeeping side of the business as a side job to raising her family and keeping their home. She was an avid sports enthusiast, who loved all sports and particularly loved watching her children and grandchildren play in their extracurricular sporting events. Ruby’s favorite pastime was traveling and shopping with her two sisters and two daughters and her two nieces. She enjoyed playing cards with her girlfriends in Bishop where at times the games ran late into the night. Ruby balanced being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend and bookkeeper knowing well she could not be all things to all people all of the time, but she could do her best through her faith in her Savior and her willingness to love.

Ruby is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Rachael Marrou Wolf and Barry of Sealy, Jennifer Dawn Van Winkle and Scott of Georgetown, son and daughter-in-law, Lane Anthony Marrou and Candy of Corpus Christi, sister, Dorothy Bond DeBerry of Gonzales, sister-in-law, Joan Bond of Bulverde, grandchildren, Tyler Ross Marrou, Dustin Dylan Marrou, Kylie Dawn Wolf, Kolby Aaron Wolf, Sawyer Dawn Van Winkle, Hudson Scott Van Winkle and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Marie Scoggins and Dell Bond, brothers, Jack Bond and Pete Bond.

The family will receive friends at Seydler-Hill from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, with a graveside service following in St. James Cemetery with Rev. Clif Abshier officiating. Pallbearers: Tyler Marrou, Dustin Marrou, Kolby Wolf, Bret Hill and Blaine Hill. Honorary Pallbearer: Hudson Van Winkle.
