Robert “Jenker” Mikes Jr.

Robert "Jenker" Mikes Jr. was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Dec. 18. He was born in Gonzales, Texas on Oct. 12, 1949, to Robert Mikes, Sr. and Dorothy (Dees) Mikes. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Uvalde. Robert proudly served in the United States Coast Guard during Vietnam War and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9170 in Beeville where he had served as an officer.

During his life he worked in the oil field, worked for Billy Ward Construction, and owned a harvesting company with his brother-in-law David, but what he was most proud of was working as a Sgt. for the TDCJ from which he retired after twenty years of dedicated service.

He is survived by daughters Christina Lugo and husband Josh of McAllen, Texas, Crystal Aguirre and husband Gilbert Aguirre Jr. of New Braunfels, Texas, former wife Diana Drake of New Braunfels, Texas, sisters Dorothy Jean Hotz and husband Charlie of Cuero, Texas, Helen Gajdusek and husband David of Victoria, Texas, Mary Sansom and husband David of Uvalde, Texas, and Judy Gleason and husband Keith of Uvalde, Texas, 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by daughter Wendy Villarreal and husband Junior of Duncan, Oklahoma, step-daughters Debra Phillips and husband Brice of Stockdale, Texas, Amanda Mayfield of New Braunfels, Texas, and Shawn Mayfield of Stockdale, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clyde Mikes, and sister, Betty Ann Mikes.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Clint Lowery officiating. Interment will follow in Gonzales Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Gilbert Aguirre Jr., Joshua Lugo, David Sansom, Keith Gleason, Jason Gleason, and Paul Mikesh. Honorary pallbearers will be: Joel Lugo, Jaevyn Lugo, Leslie "Sonny Boy" Alley, and Joey "Peachie Pie" Mikesh. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday evening in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Friends may sign the guestbook by visiting www.seydlerhillfuneralhome.com.
