Robert Edward Jacobs, 86, completed his earthly journey Monday, Dec. 24. He was born Sept. 11, 1932 in Hope, Texas to the late McKinley "Mack" and Myrtle (Williams) Jacobs.

 He served in the U.S. Army, retired from Texas Dept. of Transportation after 31 years of service, was a former Yoakum Hospital District Board member, Salem Cemetery Association President, Hope Community Center Board President, Hope Livestock Association Board member and Lavaca County Agricultural Appraisal Board member. He was Acting Deacon of Hope Baptist Church and a former Sunday School teacher.  His greatest love was his Lord, his family and ranching.

He married Joyce Wilkerson June 21, 1952 at Hope Baptist Church. They celebrated 66 years together.

Survivors are his wife: Joyce Jacobs of Yoakum; daughters, Janet (Mike) Absher of Moulton and Linda (David) Sternadel of Hope; son, Randall (Sheri) Jacobs of Hope; six grandchildren, Jacob (Renee) Absher, Brandon (Tiffany) Absher, Reagan Jacobs, Mathis Sternadel, Lindsey Jacobs and Lauren Sternadel; two great-grandchildren, Bryson and Landry Absher; brother, Richard (Sandra) Jacobs; brother-in-law, Glenn (Pat) Wilkerson; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews.

Preceded by parents; daughter, Brenda Joyce Jacobs; brother, Johnny Jacobs.

Visitation 5-7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home.

Funeral Service 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 29 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Williams and Rev. William Walker officiating. Burial to follow at Salem Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Jacob Absher, Brandon Absher, Reagan Jacobs, Mathis  Sternadel, Lindsey Jacobs, Lauren Sternadel, Jake Jacobs, Bryan Jacobs and Brant Jacobs.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Baptist Church, Salem Cemetery or Hope Community Center.
