GONZALES — The Gonzales Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture is proud to announce that celebrity and longtime radio personality David Anderson will be the emcee of the 96th Annual Chamber of Commerce banquet on Friday, Feb. 23.

Anderson, who works for Sun Radio out of Austin, has been in radio for over 44 years and is very excited and honored to be the host of this year’s chamber banquet.

“I love Daisy Mae (Chamber Executive Director) and everything about her,” Anderson said. “I have a lot of respect for what she has done and what she is doing in Gonzales, and when she asked me if I would be interested I jumped at the chance.

“I am looking forward to meeting everyone in Gonzales, and hopefully, we’ll make it a fun night for everyone attending.”

Anderson started his career 44 years ago at KRBA in Lufkin, Texas on April 23, 1973. In 1980, he moved to Austin to work in radio there.

“Austin was a young man’s paradise,” Anderson joked, “and it still is. Unfortunately, I’m not a young man anymore.”

Over the course of his radio career, Anderson said he has talked and interviewed United States Senators, Governors, celebrities, sports stars and famous athletes, and even some Playmates of the Year.

One of the coolest things he says he has ever done is deliver a live on-air description of the space shuttle when it buzzed over Austin years ago. Now, Anderson provides hourly updates on all of the Sun radio stations across Texas, including the stations here in Gonzales. He is also on the air in Austin, San Marcos, Fredericksburg and Dripping Springs.

Anderson says he prefers being the sidekick on his morning radio shows. He tries to provide local stories and unique stories of interest.

“I have done just about everything in radio,” Anderson said. “Call me a Jack of all trades but Master of None.”

Anderson has dabbled in video, and even sold a video at the Cannes Film Festival in France. It is something he is still interested in doing.

“Tell everyone in Gonzales, I am looking forward to seeing their town,” he said, then added “Or maybe you should warn them I am coming.”

The Chamber Banquet is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 23. Tickets and tables are still available by calling Liz at the Chamber office at 672-6532.
