The City of Gonzales announced two construction projects starting this week: an upgrade to utility lines in the Country Village/Harrell Addition and drain and sewer line improvements between St. Lawrence and St. Vincent streets.

The work on the utility lines will start on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Rolling outages may occur during the project, lasting from one to six hours, according to City Manager Tim Patek. Affected customers will be notified the day before if an outage will last more than two hours.

Patek said the work is being done to improve the reliability of the power system and should be completed by the end of the month.

Lester Contracting will perform the installation of storm sewer pipe and make drainage improvements in the other project, which is expected to continue through the end of the year.

The work will be done from south of St. Vincent Street to St. Lawrence Street. The line will be installed within easements south of St. Vincent Street and within the alley west of Smith Street from St. Vincent Street to St. Louis Street, according to Patek. It will then cross the junior high school practice field between St. Louis and St. Lawrence streets.

Questions may be directed to City Hall at (830) 672-2815.
