Nixon man charged with sexual assault

NIXON — A Nixon man is out on bond after police said he was jailed for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl.

Police Chief Mario Hernandez reported that on Dec. 31, he and Officer Daniel Torres were dispatched to a residence in reference to a report of a sexual assault of a child.

The victim’s mother told police her daughter had been inappropriately touched and sexually assaulted the previous night.

The suspect was identified as Domingo Hernandez Mendez Jr., 31, of Nixon. 

The victim was taken to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center, where she was examined by a S.A.N.E. nurse.

Mendez was arrested Jan. 6 and taken to Gonzales County Jail. He was released on $85,000 bond on Jan. 11. Mendez is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child by exposure and indecency with a child by sexual contact.
