Nixon council meetings remain on Mondays

NIXON — City council on Monday decided to keep its monthly meetings on Monday nights instead of moving them to Tuesdays.

The decision came when two council members said they weren’t available on Tuesdays, and the motion to change the date died for a lack of a second.

Over the last few years, the council has flip-flopped between Mondays and Tuesdays, even changing the meeting times from 5 to 5:30 p.m. and even 6 p.m., which is the current time.

Two council members stated that they wanted to have the meetings moved to a different night because they are currently unable to attend Nixon-Smiley CISD school board meetings, which are held on the same night.

“The reason for the item was so council members could go to school board meetings,” Mayor Gladyne Finch said. “If they were to go on the same night, we wouldn’t even be able to establish a quorum.”

The meetings will be held for the time being at 6 p.m. at the public library while renovations are being made at City Hall.
