Nixon City Council may ban fireworks tonight

NIXON — Sparks may fly tonight as Nixon City Council meets to discuss banning fireworks at the city’s regularly-scheduled meeting.
Following a public forum, the city will hear the fire chief’s report and then discuss and take possible action on: fire department fuel cards; the award of construction contracts for the 4th Street sewer project; a S. Roosevelt Street variance permit; parking lot stripes; air pollution in the city of Nixon, zip link wireless internet; adding benches and planters to the Nixon Gazebo; Emergency Medical Services building use; a possible Nixon Festival; domestic/non-domestic animals; “junked” vehicles; calling for a general election; and, employee personal protective equipment.
The meeting will continue with comments from the mayor, a report from the police chief and a report from the city administrator.
City Council may meet in a closed executive session if necessary; any action coming as a result of closed-door discussions will be voted upon when council reconvenes in open session.
Nixon City Council meets at 5:30 p.m. today, Monday, Feb. 12, at Nixon City Hall, 100 W. 3rd Street.
