Neighborhood watch signs donated

NIXON — Gonzales County Sheriff Matt Atkinson donated neighborhood watch signs to Nixon Wednesday, which indicate citizens taking part in reporting crime-related activities.

Nixon recently began holding monthly neighborhood watch meetings at the Richardson Christian Center, during which law enforcement meet with citizens and discuss how they can develop safer habits to live by. The objective is to help report and prevent crime in the community.

“We’re considering putting one of the signs at City Hall so people who come in can see that we have a neighborhood watch program,” Mayor Gladyne Finch said. “We would also like to obtain some smaller signs and put them in the yards of neighborhood watch members.”

Atkinson said he will also be donating signs to the Harwood community as well as the Thompsonville Neighborhood Watch Association.

“We’re trying to create partnerships with communities out in the county so we can get information out and get better crime prevention,” Atkinson said. “We want them to know we support their efforts within the communities themselves, and continue to build those relationships with those communities.”
