National Night Out returns

The annual National Night Out returns to Texas on Oct. 1. The event promotes first responder partnership with the community and neighborhood camaraderie.

There will be multiple events in Gonzales County celebrating the occasion. In Gonzales, Gonzales Police Department, Gonzales ISD police, Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office, Gonzales County EMS and Gonzales Fire Department will be in the parking lot of thrive Healthplex from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to meet and mingle with first responders. There will also be games for children and vehicle tours.

Smiley is also hosting its own event. Beginning at 6 p.m. at the Smiley Volunteer Fire Department, residents can hang out with members of the Smiley Marshals Office and the Smiley Volunteer Fire Department. Music, food and events for kids will be provided all free of cost.

The Nixon Police Department has a National Night Out event planned as well. Nixon’s event kicks off at 5 p.m. at the Nixon-Smiley Livestock Showbarn. Music, barbecue and prizes will be provided. There will also be a bouncy house for kids.
