Mustangs shut out Sacred Heart for win

HALLETTSVILLE — Nixon-Smiley moved to 2-1 after shutting out the Hallettsville Sacred Heart Indians 14-0 in Friday’s game.

Quarterback Colby Newman led the way on offense as he ran the ball 23 times for 155 yards and two scores. He also went 2-for-5 over the air for 61 yards, completing both passes to Devin Hester. Jason Yell ran the ball 17 times for 56 yards.

Yell led the defense in tackles with seven solo. Dylan Maldonado had four solo and three assists while Newman had three solo and five assisted. Rodrigo Acevedo had a sack and Emilio Guzman came away with a fumble recovery.

Nixon-Smiley travels Friday to take on San Antonio Cole.
