May sales tax revenue down across region

Four of six cities in Gonzales County and surrounding areas saw a decrease in sales tax revenue for May when compared to the previous year. However, Gonzales County overall had an increase.

The City of Gonzales had an 8.07 percent decrease in May 2019, going from $251,270.95 in 2018 to $230,975.99 in 2019. The city still maintains a slight 5.67 percent increase in year-to-date revenue.

Nixon had the largest drop in revenue among Gonzales County cities. Nixon went down 35.20 percent from the previous year, going from $56,211.29 in 2018 to $36,422.06 in 2019. The city is down 16.93 percent in year-to-date revenue compared to 2018.

Waelder had the biggest percentage increase in the county, increasing 28.85 percent from $3,413.76 in 2018 to $4,398.92 in 2019. Waelder still maintains a slim 1.72 percent decrease in year-to-date revenue.

Smiley had a slow month compared to the previous year. Sales tax revenue was down 2.14 percent from 2018, going from $1,451.93 in May 2018 to $1,420.76 in May 2019. Smiley is still doing significantly better in year-to-date with a 59.20 percent increase in revenue from 2018.

Outside of the county, Shiner had a 17.18 percent increase in May 2019 over the previous year. They hold a 25.07 percent increase in year-to-date. Luling saw a 23.58 percent decrease in May 2019. They still have raised 4.26 percent more sales tax revenue this year.

Gonzales County overall saw a 13.93 percent increase in May 2019, going from $164,643.45 in 2018 to $187,589.26 this past May. The county has raised 20.03 percent more sales tax revenue in year-to-date results.
