Maude Elaine Smith Faulkner

Maude Elaine (Smith) Faulkner was born on June 27, 1917, at the home of her maternal grandparents, Lucy Best and John Frances Stewart near Leesville. She passed on Oct. 16, 2020 in Nixon, Texas. Her parents, Alice Mae Stewart and Richard Stanfield Smith, resided in the community of School Land in Gonzales County. Elaine spent her childhood school days at the three-room School Land school. After graduating from the 10^th grade, she attended Nixon High School and finished the 11^th grade in 1934. In 1935, she was employed at the San Antonio State Hospital. It was there she met Allen Walker Faulkner on a blind date. They were married September 4, 1937. They were blessed with their four children; Alice Faye, Richard Allen, Bobby Eugene, and Gary Lee Faulkner. They enjoyed 54 years of life together. Allen passed away April 29, 1991. Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter; Alice Faye Dunn, and grandson James Dunn, sister; Marie Woodall and her husband Elton, sister; Gladys Wagner and her husband Jimmie, and brother-in-law; Joe Mangum. She is survived by her sons; Richard Faulkner and wife Kathleen, Bobby Faulkner and wife Susan, Gary Lee Faulkner and wife Rita, son-in-law; Jack Dunn; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren plus one on the way, brother-in-law; Joe Faulkner of Ohio, sister-in-law; Frances Pate of Marble Falls, and sister-in-law; Jimmie Mangum of Crosby, as well as a host of friends, nieces and nephews. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Nixon. She spent her final years at Seguin Assisted Living playing bingo and dominoes every day until the pandemic hit in March 2020. A visitation with family and friends was held at Finch Funeral Chapel, Nixon, Texas from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 17, 2020. A funeral service was held on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Finch Funeral Chapel, Nixon, Texas.

Interment took place at Nixon Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Pastor’s Rhonda Troll and Joe Mangum, Jr. were officiants of the service. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Nixon Cemetery Association.
