Marie Antoinette “Tony” Voigt

Marie Antoinette “Tony” Voigt, 89, of Gonzales, passed away Friday, Jan. 26. She was born December 1, 1928 in Ottine, TX the daughter of Oscar William Voigt and Agnes Huber Voigt.

She graduated from Gonzales High School in 1945. She attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated in 1949 with a major in chemistry and a minor in math. She taught 7th and 8th grade in Marion, TX from 1949-1950. She also taught 7th grade math in Gonzales from 1950-1952.

She went to work as a chemist at Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, TX on June 6, 1952 and retired on December 31, 1991. She moved back to Gonzales on April 1, 2016 to be near her family. She loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her niece and three nephews and their families. She also loved going to the opera, going to plays along with traveling extensively.

She was a member of the St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Freeport for 64 years and St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales from 2016 until her passing away.

She is survived by her niece Debra “Debbie” Behrendt Everett and husband John of Ottine; nephews Douglas Duane Behrendt and wife Ray of Kyle, Gary Lynn Behrendt and wife Donna of Ottine and Larry Michael Behrendt and wife Penny of Gonzales; great nephews and great niece Michael Shane Behrendt and wife Chelo, John A. Everett Jr. and wife Jennifer, Randy Behrendt, Amanda Sanders and husband Jacob, Ricky Behrendt and wife Amber, Chris Everett and wife Jessica and Cory Everett and wife Kim; great-great- nephews and nieces Caleb Behrendt, Victoria Everett, Savannah Bush, Matthew Everett, Gavin Behrendt, Payton Everett, Amara Behrendt, Bristyn Behrendt, Gideon Sanders, Kylee Everett, Levi Everett and Wyatt Brunner.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Patricia “Patsy” Amelda Voigt Behrendt.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with the Rosary being recited at 6 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at St. James Catholic Church with Reverend Paul Raaz officiating. Interment will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers include Michael Shane Behrendt, John A. Everett Jr., Randy Behrendt, Ricky Behrendt, Chris Everett and Cory Everett.
