Maria Rosa Lopez

Maria Rosa Lopez, 76, of Gonzales, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021. Maria was born Sept. 29, 1944 in Nuevo Laredo to Antonio Velarde and Carmen Ortiz. She married her beloved husband Reynaldo Delfino Lopez on April 6, 1964 in Laredo.

Maria was born and raised in Nuevo Laredo. She married her beloved husband at the age of 17 and together they moved to Encinal. Maria continuously worked outside the home while raising nine children.

She would faithfully rise every morning at 4 a.m. to prepare breakfast for her husband and lunch for him to take to work. She would lovingly have supper ready when he returned home from work. Maria was an amazing cook. She would draw her family together over meals that she affectionately prepared for them and she loved going to the casino and playing lotteria with her family.

She loved being outside with her kids and grandkids listening to music. She was a caring and nurturing lady who loved to help and feed family, friends and friends she was just meeting. Maria often fed visiting Evangelists as they traveled through town spreading the word of God.

Maria loved her Lord and Savior and shared her faith with her family and those that would listen. Maria served her Lord best by serving others and she shared her gifts with others freely and with all her might. She cherished her husband and her family and always put their needs above her own.

Maria Rosa Lopez is survived by her adoring family, daughters: Sonia Edwards of San Antonio, Rosa Rodriguez of Gonzales, Sylvia Ramos “Gustavo” of San Antonio, Faith Lopez of Gonzales; sons: Edward Lopez (Anna), Sabas Lopez (Joanna), Richard Lopez, Rogelio Lopez (Lisa) – all of San Antonio – Sabas Lopez (Leslie) of Gonzales; 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband; parents; grandson: Rogelio Lopez; and sisters: Juanie and Antonia.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2021 in Eastside Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Ramirez officiating. Interment will follow in Gonzales Memorial Park.
