GONZALES – A Pflugerville man lost his life after officials said his vehicle collided with another vehicle about 12 miles north of town.

The Texas Highway Patrol reported that at 5:19 p.m. Sept. 6, Jay Hanslik, 41, of Goliad, was driving a 2017 Ford pickup, heading southbound on Highway 183 near the Park Road 11 intersection when he lost control of the vehicle and swerved into oncoming traffic. Troopers said he struck a 2009 Dodge pickup driven by Walter May Mcafee, 72, of Pflugervile. The report said the collision sent Mcafee’s vehicle into a 180-degree spin before coming to a rest facing south on the road’s shoulder. Hanslik’s vehicle then bounced back across the median, losing some tires in the process, before crossing back into the southbound lane — coming to a rest facing south on the road’s shoulder.

Troopers said Mcafee was airlifted to Del Seton University Hospital in Austin, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Hanslik was reported to be uninjured in the crash.
