GONZALES — A local man ended up behind bars after police said he inappropriately touched a 12-year-old child.

On Jan. 16, Officer Tyler Wendland met with the mother of a 12-year-old child who said that they were shopping at a local store when a man inappropriately touched the child, according to Capt. Allen Taylor. Officers obtained video footage that confirmed the incident, and an arrest warrant was issued for the suspect — W.L. Johnson, 49, of Gonzales. On Jan. 20 police arrested Johnson and took him to Gonzales County Jail. He is charged with two counts of indecency with a child.

On Jan. 24, Officer Dustin Kincaid was dispatched to the 900 block of Pecan St. in reference to a fight in progress. Upon arrival Kincaid saw a man identified as Javier Garcia, 19, of Gonzales. Garcia had his arms in the air and was aggressively approaching another man, Taylor said.

Kincaid exited the patrol car and ordered Garcia to turn around, but Garcia ignored him. When the officer grabbed Garcia by the arms in an attempt to detain him, Garcia pulled away, leading to Kincaid having to drive stun him.

Sgt. Dewey Sumner and Officer Alberto Carrera arrived on the scene to assist Kincaid, and after a brief struggle subdued Garcia. Garcia was taken to Gonzales Memorial Hospital and evaluated, and later taken to Gonzales County Jail. He is charged with interfering with public duties.
