Luling lifter advances to state

WEST — Last Saturday, three Luling athletes competed in the regional powerlifting meet, with one Eagle advancing to the state.

Superheavyweight Jonathyn Murry placed third in the weight class, squatting 660 pounds, bench pressing 410 pounds and dead lifting 540 pounds to total to 1,610. His total qualified for state. Taking first in the weight class was Crawford’s Seth Kohlscheen who totaled 1,820 pounds. Placing second was Thorndale’s Corey Brooks who totaled 1,635 pounds.

Azreael Valle placed third in the 275-pound weight class as he lifted 570 pounds in squat, 345 in bench press and 495 in dead lift to total 1,410. He was one place from qualifying as Comanche’s Kendal Beck had a total of 1,710 pounds and Early’s Logan Gillem had a total of 1,550 pounds.

Adriel Ruiz placed ninth in the 123-pound weight class, lifting 285 pounds in squat, 165 pounds in bench press and 310 in dead lift to total 760 pounds. Qualifying for state in the region were Brady’s Eli DeHoyos with a total of 930 pounds and Hearne’s Za’quavion Golden with a total of 895 pounds.
