Luling boys dominate district race

POTH — The Luling Eagles boys cross-country team dominated the District 27-3A race, taking the top four spots and ultimately the district title last week. Edwin Zamudio, Aden Gonzales, Thomas Roberts and Jesus Osorio took first through fourth, in that order, before Caleb Brandon placed eighth, Abraham Gonzales 13th and Anthony Gonzalez 24th.

Luling scored 18 points, besting Stockdale and Poth, who will all advance as a team to the regional meet.

Nixon-Smiley’s Antonio Rangel led the way for the Mustangs, placing 12th overall. Jesus Vasquez placed 25th, Modesto Limon placed 31st, Joel Barajas 37th and Fernando Acevedo 38th.

On the girls side, Luling placed third behind Yoakum and Karnes City to advance. Vidi Muñoz led the Lady Eagles with her eight-place finish. Other Luling racers include Gimena Olvera who placed 16th, Jennifer Zamudio took 18th and Celina Hernandez, Fernanda Ramirez and Shyla Bujnoch placed 20th-22nd, respectively.

Nixon-Smiley’s Shayla Muñoz, Sidney Alvarez and Lilliana Jenks placed 23rd-25th, respectively.

Regional qualifiers will race in Corpus Christi on Monday, Oct. 22.
