Lloyd M. Kurtz, 87, of Gonzales, passed away Monday, Feb. 12. Lloyd was born April 23, 1930 in Waelder, TX to Frank and Ruby Clark Kurtz. He married Audrey Tharp on March 17, 1949 in Wrightsboro, TX and they were blessed with 68 years of togetherness. Lloyd was a member of Memorial Heights Baptist Church and a 50 years member of the International Order of Odd Fellows.

At the age of 12, Lloyd started pumping gas at King’s Texaco. He later went to work for Goodyear Tire and Company in Yoakum before stepping out on his own with drive-in grocery stores. He had Kurtz Used Car lot until he retired in 2005. In retirement, he dedicated himself to caring for his lawn, many times mowing his grass every other day to keep it beautiful. Lloyd enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes, watching old western movies and tinkering with cars. He shared his love of fishing with his son and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was sure to see that each member of his family had a tire gauge in their car’s glove compartment and would stand firm when challenged with his “go to” responses, “that’ll never happen” or “this ain’t gonna work.” “Kurtz” as his many friends called him, had a warm welcoming smile and gift of conversation, he was a good man who will be missed by all who knew him.

Lloyd Kurtz is survived by his loving family, wife, Audrey Kurtz, daughter, Susan Alford both of Gonzales, son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Patty Kurtz of Victoria, sister, Gloria Worthington of Vidor, grandchildren, Amy Hempel “Russel”, Chris Kurtz “Laurie”, Becky Tolle “Scott” and Joey Alford, great-grandchildren, Ashley Hempel, Brittany Hempel, Scooter Tolle and Ethan Alford and a niece, Terry Gibson. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Joe Alford.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 in the Gonzales Odd Fellows Cemetery with Rev. Clint Lowery officiating.
