VOLLEYBALL: Lady Mustangs thump Luling on road

The Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs came away from Luling Friday, Sept. 10,with a straight-set victory over the Luling Lady Eagles in the opening game of district play.

The Lady Mustangs took all three sets in the match — 25-12, 25-11 and 25-10 — to claim a very important road win. Christiana Ramirez notched 29 assists, while Madisyne Rice was the top attacker with 12 kills, head coach Loraine Zuniga said.

Natalee Mendez served up three aces, while Kaidence Pecina tallied 18 digs and Greenlee Houseton patrolled the net with two blocks.

Both the freshman and JV teams fought hard, but each lost in a very close third set.

Nixon-Smiley continued district play Tuesday night as they hosted the Randolph Ro-Hawks for all levels (freshman, JV and varsity).
