Lady Cats blown out on the road

MOULTON — The Waelder Lady Wildcats went up against state-ranked Moulton and took a 71-19 loss, dropping to 0-8 in District 30-1A.

Moulton ran off an 8-0 run before Waelder scored their first basket of the night around the six-minute mark. The Kittens used their full-court press to force turnover after turnover, leading to a 23-6 advantage after the first quarter. Moulton only allowed three points in the second while they more than doubled their lead, ending the half up 52-9. The Lady Cats were able to add six more points in the third and another four in the fourth while Moulton scored 19 points in the half to finish the game with a 52-point victory.

Brejhai Montgomery led the team in scoring with eight points. Malorie Puente added five, Kelsey Gonzales had four and Fatima Torres had two.

Waelder takes on Round Top-Carmine (2-6) tonight at home with tipoff set at 5 p.m.
