Shiner St. Paul will be adding yet another trophy to the case with the Lady Cardinals cross-country team winning their seventh consecutive TAPPS 2A State Cross-Country title, scoring 47 points, beating Holy Trinity Catholic who had 80 points. Meanwhile, the boys team placed ffith with 153 points, behind Southcrest Christian with 56, All Saints Episcopal with 72, Ascension Academy with 79 and Bethesda Christian with 79.

Sophomore Julianna Davis won her second-straight individual title with her time of 12:47.1. Davis’ time was an improvement from last year’s gold-medal winning race.

Sophomore Rebecca Wagner also did well, placing in the top 10 for the second year. She took seventh with a time of 13:25.1.

“The girls did an outstanding job of handling the wind and hills of the course,” St. Paul head coach Dana Beal-Sestak said. “They placed a lot of pressure on themselves to defend their title. They set individual goals that would help achieve the team goal of being the state champions. Those who competed are surrounded by a great group of teammates that push them day in and day out at practice. They compete every day in practice.”

Other finishers include freshman Ashlyn Pesek who placed 14th with a time of 14:16.5, junior Paige Brown place 15th with her time of 14:18.9, sophomore Sadie Mikes took 17th with a time of 14:21.5, freshman Cortney Tuch finished 19th with a time of 14:25.0 and junior Tristin Davis finished 22nd with a time of 14:43.

The win is St. Paul’s 10th of the last 12 state meets.

The boys team was led by junior Cade Davis, who finished 10th with a time of 18:35.0. The young Cardinals, with five freshmen competing for the team, placed fifth as a team.

“We are really proud of the boys and how they competed well on the tough course,” Beal-Sestak said. “We are really proud of them and how much they have accomplished during this season. Cade Davis and Taylor Robinson provided great leadership for a very young team.”

Other finishers include freshman Fisher Davis who finished 25th with a time of 19:59.1, junior Taylor Robinson who finished 32nd with a time of 20:44.7, freshman Trent Brown who finished 44th with a time of 21:50.4, freshman Kalib Linn who finished 68th with a time of 23:58.1, freshman Jacob Twyford who finished 70th with a time of 24:02.3 and freshman Dario Hernandez who finished 71st with a time of 24:08.5.
