Lady Apaches rake in postseason awards

GONZALES — The Gonzales Lady Apaches cross-country team were state finalists, taking seventh place as a team at the Class 4A meet earlier this month. The Texas Girls Coaches Association announced various end-of-year awards, including coach of the year and all-star selections.

Maura Garcia was named an all-star for TGCA in the Class 4A-1A category. TGCA selects a maximum of 24 all-stars from each category. All all-star selections are juniors.

TGCA previously named Romy Cantu and Haley Garza as legacy all-stars, a category mainly for seniors.

Meanwhile, Head Coach Cully Doyle was named Class 1A-4A Coach of the Year, while the entire team of Krystalynn Buesing, Romy Cantu, Shelby Davis, Maura Garcia, Haley Garza, Veronica Moreno and Stephanie Reyna were named to the Class 4A all-state team.

Getting all-district honors were Cantu, Garza, Moreno and Reyna.
