On Friday, Gonzales dropped the first set, 23-25, but stormed back to take the second set 25-16. Despite their best efforts, however, the Lady Apaches could not close out wins in the next two sets, dropping each by a 23-25 margin.

McKenzie Hodges led the team in kills with a high of 16. Sydney McCray took three aces. Tara Lester had 11 kills and Madison York had eight digs.

“We just made quite a few errors that didn't allow us to catch up and keep a lead,” said head coach Sarah Neal.

On Tuesday, Gonzales jumped out to a 25-15 win in the opening set, but then dropped the enxt three sets to YWLA, 19-25, 12-25 and 23-25.

Kristyn Baker had seven kills. McKenzie Hodges had 12 kills. Madison York had four aces. Carlee Ramos had 11 digs.

“YWLA was loud and energetic, and moved the ball around well. We just struggled to make the adjustment,” Neal said.

The Lady Apaches take the court at Goliad on Friday, Sept. 17, and will return home to play Hallettsville on Tuesday, Sept. 21.
