Kenneth Knapp Johnson, 64, of Gonzales, passed away Wednesday, July 12. He was born July 8, 1953 in Gonzales, the son of Henry Grady Johnson Jr. and Evelyn “Bitsy” Burnett Johnson.

He was a 1972 graduate of Gonzales High School and a member of the Presbyterian Church. He worked for many years in the oil industry on offshore rigs and retired as a gauger. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He liked playing pool at home and the occasional trip to Coushatta. Most of all he cherished time with his grandchildren, trips to the coast or just traveling the back-country roads with them.

He is survived by his wife Mary Jane Johnson, mother Evelyn “Bitsy” Johnson, daughters Natalie Marie Johnson and husband Frank and Kayla Marissa Johnson all of Gonzales; son Henry Everette Johnson and wife Apryl of Ledbetter; sister Linda Mahoney and husband Russell of Beeville; grandchildren Macy Marie Mendez, Gracie Ann Mendez, Deyanna A. Polk and Elijah C. Radziejewski and aunts B.D. Burch of Corpus Christi and Carolyn Grau and husband Jim of LaPorte.

He was preceded in death by his father, sister Brenda Baros and brother Henry Grady “Bubba” Johnson III. Memorial services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15 at The Presbyterian Church. Visitation was from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church. Honorary pallbearers include Tommy Witt, Roger Tomas, James Howell, John Carson, Johnnie Hall, Mike Rhoades, Robbie Connell, Danny O’dell and David Casanova.

Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, The Presbyterian Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, or The Friends of Gonzales Animal Shelter/Dog Adoptions. Arrangements under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
