Waelder Junior High wins close

The Waelder Junior High boys won 30-32 against Dime Box last Thursday, Dec. 5 in a collaborative effort by all the Wildcats, according to coaches. “Tough defense under the boards and fast-break layups were the keys to success last night,” wrote head coach Richard King. Top shooters were Luis, Jayden, Isaiah and Stephen. “Thank you to all the parents and staff that came to the game,” King said.

Gonzales 8th grade boys lose to Cuero

Both the 8B and 8A Apaches lost to Cuero earlier this week.

The Gonzales 8B lost “in a valiant effort,” according to coaches, to the Cuero Gobblers. Camren Ramirez led the way with six points. Weston Ruddock had five points. Cree Stowers, Terrell Henderson and Miguel Moreno added three points while Rafael Rodriguez had two and Parker Storey had one point.

The 8A team lost, with Carlos Martinez scoring four points to lead the team. Ryden McGehee and Tyler Wilson each had two points.

Lady Apache 8B moves to 2-2 after win

The Gonzales Lady Apaches 8B team knocked off Cuero 36-14. Kelly Breitschopf scored 12 points, Christie Reyna scored 11, Hannah Avant added six, Sam Baker finished with four and Kassandra Mendez and Alyson Jahns both scored two points each. “Great defensive play by Sam Baker, Hannah Avant and Serenity Perez,” coaches added. “Everyone played a good game and did an outstanding job.”

Gonzales 7th grade boys lose to Cuero

The Gonzales 7B team lost to Cuero 31-18. Dylan Gonzales was leading scorer with 10 points. Landon Lindstedt scored four points and Jordan Escobedo and River Vankirk scored two points each.

The Apaches 7A team lost to Cuero 43-24. Gavin Lekgega was leading scorer with eight points. R.J. Coplin, Dylan Hunt and Calvin Collier each scored four points while Zane Whitehead and Jermane Upshaw each scored two points.
