Don’t be alarmed by the influx of horses and trailers coming to town this upcoming week. That just means the rodeo is back.

The Texas Junior High Rodeo Association’s (TJHRA) state finals begin Monday as rodeo athletes from all over Texas compete for the chance at declaring themselves the best cowhands in the state.

Gonzales County will be represented by two hometown rodeo kids this year at the TJHRA state finals. Barrett Shelton of Gonzales will be taking on two events next week. Shelton will be performing in the chute dogging on Monday night and Friday morning. He’ll also scheduled to perform in boys’ goat tying on Tuesday night and Thursday morning.

Waelder’s Kori Bigbee will be making her return trip to the state finals, this time competing in one event, barrel racing. Her performances are on Tuesday night and Thursday morning.

Schedule of events is attached above.
