Joe Perez Guevara Sr., 80, of Gonzales, passed away Friday, March 29. He was born Jan. 24, 1939 in Gonzales, the son of Catarino and Susanna Perez Guevara.

He was a retired truck driver and drove for several companies throughout the years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He loved music and sang with Conjunto bands. He enjoyed watching boxing and football and hanging out with his buddies, always telling jokes and lighthearted teasing. He always “dressed to impress” being well groomed including wearing his favorite fedora hats. Most of all he treasured time spent with his loving family, barbecuing, watching sports or just being together. He was especially fond of his youngest grandbabies Kaislyn, Braxson and Beckhym.

He is survived by his wife Teresa Guevara of Gonzales; daughters: Susie Noyola and husband Charlie of Gonzales, Cindy Higginbotham and fiancée Ronnie Kresta of New Braunfels; son Joe P. Guevara Jr. and fiancée Krista Vercher of Lafayette, Louisiana; sister Amelia Ramos of Bryan; brother John Guevara Sr. of Gonzales; grandchildren: Georgia Molnoskey, Joshua Noyola, Karly Noyola, Tanner Higginbotham, Trent Higginbotham, Trace Higginbotham, Kenzie Paige Guevara and Beckhym Tate Guevara; great-grandchildren: Kayle Molnoskey, Connor Molnoskey, Kaislyn “Charli” Molnoskey and Braxson Cruze Higginbotham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Roman, Casimiro, Sotero, Santiago and Felipe Guevara, sisters: Lucia Gongora, Vicenta Ramos and Epifania Estrada. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, April 1 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with the rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Stan Fuik officiating. Interment will follow at the St. James Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Charlie Noyola, Tanner Higginbotham, Trent Higginbotham, Trace Higginbotham, Josh Noyola and John Ramos Jr. Honorary pallbearers include: Guadalupe “Red” Martinez, Connor Molnoskey, Oscar Melchor and Rufino Gonzales. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, Gonzales.
