Jesse Sanchez “Chuy” Carrizales, Sr. , 77, of Gonzales passed away Monday, Aug. 13, 2018. Jesse was born Dec. 23, 1940 in Gonzales to Pedro Carrizales and Marie Sanchez Carrizales. He married Guadalupe “Lupe” Castro on May 3, 1964 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gonzales. Jesse was a life long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

As a youngster living in Gonzales, Jesse attended school in Gonzales and enjoyed playing football and baseball. He left school early when he got a job at Boothe Hatchery, a job he kept for over 30 years.

Jesse and Lupe loved to dance, and they attended many dances enjoying each other’s company on the dance floor. He enjoyed traveling with his family to Puerto Vallarta, Cancun and Disney World along with trips to the coast, Astro World and Six Flags.

As a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Jesse was sure to gather his family to attend some of the Cowboy’s home games. His love of sports didn’t end with the Cowboys for every Friday night Jesse would load up his family attend Apache football games both home and away games.

Jesse was a hardworking man. He was certain to put in a solid day’s work and come home to maintain his vehicles and home. These are lessons he handed down to his son and daughter. He faithfully encouraged them to excel in school and seek higher education.

Jesse learned to live independently at a young age and he sought assurances that his children would be strong, independent and productive citizens. He took great pride in his son Jesse, Jr.’s accomplishments in graduating from University of Texas and working for the Texas Attorney General. His daddy’s girl Lisa remained the apple of his eye as many daughters are to their fathers and has a very successful stylist practice with Studio Envy in Gonzales.

His love of family carried into the lives of his grandchildren as he attended all their activities. “Popo” as they called him was their biggest fan and proud grandfather.

Jesse suffered a stroke that set him back, but he was certain to overcome post stroke conditions to proudly walk his daughter down the isle at her wedding. Subsequent strokes followed, and he heroically battled to overcome them as well and continue to support his family in all they did for as long as he could. He clearly knew he was part of a loving family and he held that truth close to his heart. He was further comforted in his faith and trust in God that whatever came his way “His will be done.”

Jesse Sanchez “Chuy” Carrizales is survived by his adoring family, wife of 54 years, Lupe Carrizales; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Ann and Bryan Blackwell all of Gonzales; son, Jesse Carlos Carrizales, Jr. of Lockhart; brother and sister-in-law, Anastacio and Maria Carrizales of San Antonio; grandchildren, Joseph Padilla, William Klayton Blackwell and his wife Mikayla, Landon Roy Blackwell, Jaydon Wynton Blackwell; great-grandchildren, Devan Padilla, Michael Padilla, Jordan Padilla, Janae Padilla, and Ellyott Blackwell.
