Jerral Gordon of San Marcos, Texas, passed away on Aug. 31, at the age of 85. He was born March 11, 1933 in Nixon, Texas.

He served his country in the U.S. Army, in England, where he met his beloved wife, Margaret. A jack-of-all-trades, Jerral loved building and welding, and even built his own home and several rental homes. He was real character, especially well known in the community for buying oranges at Christmas time and giving them away to everyone.

His mother, Estelle Gordon Boatright and two sisters, JoNell Wells and Florence Peck preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Haselip) Gordon; three daughters, Janette Gordon (Russell Steward) of Austin, Jackie Mireless (Tony) of California and JerriAnn Helfenstine (Samuel) of San Marcos; sister, Geraldine Machicek of San Marcos; four grandchildren, Craig Mireless (Candice), Calvin Helfenstine (Brittany), George Helfenstine and Alexis Steward; and two great-grandchildren, Emrie and Draven Mireless.

Jerral’s life was celebrated at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 2 at Pennington Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the San Marcos City Cemetery.
