Jerome F. Pavliska

Jerome F. Pavliska, 77, passed away on Thursday, March 21 at his home in Gonzales surrounded by his family. Jerome was born Sept. 30, 1941 in Wied, Texas. He married Georgia Barborak on Oct. 13, 1962 in Moravia, Texas. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales.

Jerome was raised in the Wied area and from a young age began working on the family farm. After his graduation from Shiner St. Ludmila’s Academy in 1959, he volunteered for service in the U.S. Army, serving 13 months in Korea.

After marrying Georgia in 1962, they made their home in Gonzales, where Jerome began a career of accounting that would span 45 years for various businesses in Gonzales. His accurate and reputable bookkeeping skills lead him into many volunteer positions in his church and various organizations throughout the community.

Throughout their 56 years of marriage, Jerome and Georgia enjoyed dancing across Texas to the tunes of the Vrazel’s Polka Band, played many games of dominoes and churned many buckets of homemade ice cream. He was very proud of his Czech heritage and never failed to remind you of his “Bohemian” background.

Jerome was a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus in Gonzales, the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Yoakum Assembly, the Gonzales Czech Heritage Society and member of the ACTS community, having been one of the first from the area to attend an ACTS retreat in 2002.

Jerome will always be remembered for his integrity. He was not afraid to stand up and speak up for what was right.

Jerome is survived by his loving wife, Georgia, and their children: Debbie Pavliska of Wied, Texas, Jerry Pavliska and wife, Lorri of New Braunfels, Texas and Chuck Pavliska and wife, Cheryl of Hallettsville, Texas. “Pops” is also survived by his precious grandchildren: Claire, Erica, Katherine and Thomas Pavliska and Megan Hatcher, his sister, Agnes Darilek and husband, Doc, sister-in-law, Linda Pavliska and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Agnes Pavliska and two brothers, Henry Pavliska Jr. and Robert “Bobby” Pavliska.

A rosary will be recited for Jerome at 7 p.m. Monday, March 25 at St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, March 26 at 10 a.m. at St. James with burial to follow at Ascension of our Lord cemetery in Moravia, Texas. Pallbearers: Joe Pustka, Anthony Maresh, Michael Janak, Doc Darilek, Chris Proske, James Barborak, Ben Knesek and David Pavliska.
