The Gonzales Inquirer is proud to announce it has won eight different honors in the 2018-19 Texas Press Association Better Newspapers contest, including a third-place finish as one of the top weekly newspapers in Texas.

The Inquirer took a first-place plaque for Editorial Writing by Publisher Terry Fitzwater and another first-place plaque for headline writing by Erik McCowan.

The Inquirer bought home two second place certificates; one for Sports Coverage by Jose Torres and one by Publisher Terry Fitzwater for his column writing.

The Inquirer captured four third place honors; one by the Editorial Team of Terry Fitzwater, Jose Torres and Garrett McGinley for the Gonzales Inquirer website, a third by Publisher Terry Fitzwater for his feature writing on veterans, a third for News Writing by Terry Fitzwater and Erik McCowan for their coverage of the EMS scandal, and a third-place finish in the Sweepstakes category for winning the most awards in the weekly division. With just one more award, the Inquirer would have finished as the best weekly paper in the state of Texas.
