Hernandez takes home bronze at Texas Relays

AUSTIN — The Gonzales Lady Apaches were able to send a few athletes to the prestigious Texas Relays where they were able to compete against state-wide competitors regardless of classification.

Ericka Hernandez highlighted the Lady Apaches’ efforts as she took third overall in the discuss toss with her throw at 41.87 meters. She was bested by Elena Bruckner of San Jose Valley Christian who had a toss of 51.92 meters. Joshua’s Zoe Broadway took second with her toss of 44.27 meters.

Hernandez was also in the shot put toss, taking ninth with her toss of 39 feet, 10 ¼ inches. Keaundra Cray took 25th in the same competition with her toss of 34 feet, 7 ¼ inches.

Hernandez took fifth in the javelin throw with her toss of 31.20 meters. Beating her were Colstrip’s Hailey Poole at 39.99 meters, Pitman’s Cerah Moren at 39.64 meters, Victoria West’s Jenna Ellis at 35.54 meters and Round Rock’s Anais Hill at 31.79 meters.

The Apaches will compete this week at the District 26-4A meet over in Cuero on Wednesday and Thursday.
