Good things brewing with new drive-thru coffee shop

There’s nothing quite like a good cup of fresh coffee to get you going in the morning. As of Thursday, Gonzales has a new spot to cop a cup of joe on the go.

Texpresso, the latest business venture of local entrepreneurs Barret and Magan Miller, had its grand opening early morning June 6. The project, which was first announced in May 2018, had been a longtime dream for the two “java-ficionados.”

“We’re passionate about coffee first and foremost, it’s been a big part of our life for a long time,” Barret said. “We’ve been talking about wanting to do a coffeeshop for several years now.”

Last year everything professionally and personally lined up for the Millers and they purchased a lot off U.S. Highway 90-A. The building, located across the street from Buc-ee’s, features a single lane drive-thru as well as a walk-up window. The Millers said their coffee is organic, fair trade and the beans are roasted-to-order in Austin.

“[Our beans] are roasted in Austin by a company that’s been roasting beans for 15 years, so it’s all local to the state,” Barret said. “It is roasted-to-order, so we order the beans, they’re roasted that day and they’re shipped the next day. So, we’re using them at their peak freshness.”

Texpresso’s menu goes deeper than just coffee though. It also includes teas steeped fresh daily, frappes, smoothies made from real fruits and vegetables and food uniquely curated for the shop by local dessert boutique Sweet B’s.

“[Sweet B’s owner Brie Schauer] has come up with some awesome curated recipes that are just for our coffee shop,” Magan said. “We’ll be getting fresh pastries and baked goods from her bakery delivered to our location and we’ll be selling those at the drive-thru.”

On top of striving to provide pleasant but fast and convenient service, the Millers said they hope to foster a positive, team-based work environment. Currently, the shop has a team of 10 plus its co-owners.

“We are a Texas-based business,” Barret said. “We really want to have Texas roots in everything we do and bring something that we think would be good for Gonzales both in terms of our customers and our employees.”

Texpresso also has a order online option for those that enjoy planning ahead. The option is found its website, texpressocoffee.com, and allows customers to place an order and an estimated pick up time.

Texpresso is now open every day from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. and can be found at 104 West U.S. Highway 90-A, Gonzales, Texas 78629.
