Gonzales city council called for a special meeting Monday, May 13 to canvass the returns and officially declare the results of the May 4 Gonzales General and Special Election.

Saturday’s recount of the Gonzales mayoral election showed incumbent mayor Connie Kacir winning with 50.3 percent of the vote. Rob Brown finished second with 43.5 percent and Bob Burchard finished third with 6.2 percent.

Alongside the mayoral election on the ballot May 4 was 11 proposed amendments to the city’s home rule charter. Results showed 10 of the 11 amendments passing. Proposition G, “amendments to the city charter to authorize the city to spend public funds on privately-owned subdivisions situated within or beyond the corporate limits of the city as authorized by the Texas Constitution,” was the only amendment struck down by voters. More information on the charter amendments can be found here.

At the meeting, the presiding officer of the canvassing authority will issue a Certification of Election, making the election results official and Kacir will again be sworn in as mayor.

Two other agenda items, both involving water meters, will be discussed at the meeting. Both items were tabled at the prior Gonzales council meeting May 9.

Council will meet at 5 p.m. at the Gonzales Municipal Building, 820 St. Joseph St. Gonzales, Texas 78629. City council meetings are always open to the public.
