Connie Kacir took to Facebook Saturday, May 11 to declare victory in the Gonzales mayoral election. On her campaign page “Connie Kacir for Mayor,” Kacir thanked her supporters and urged unity within the city moving forward.
“I thank everyone who supported me and to all who voted in the Mayoral May 4th election,” the Kacir campaign said. “Let us move forward respecting each other with dignity, with love for one another and in agreement to always negotiate in the best interest of Gonzales naming this city the winner each and every time. When our ideas differ, let us remember doing what is right is not always what is easy.”
Rob Brown filed the petition for recount May 7, after provisional and mail-in ballots put him four votes shy of a runoff with Kacir. Although the recount finished, results were not  made public that day. City Secretary Kristina Vega, the recount supervisor, cited Texas Election Code as the reason for this.
Texas Election Code Section 213.056 states that “the recount coordinator shall give notice of the result of the recount to the petitioner and each person entitled to notice under Section 212.032, for an initial recount or an expedited recount.” Section 212.032 further clarifies that the “if the recount involves an election for nomination or election to an office,” as this election does, only each opposing candidate will be notified.

Recount  totals were sent to the Inquirer by Kacir on Sunday and will be become official Monday, May 13 at a special called city council meeting.  According to the report (attached to this story) Kacir had 566 votes (50.3%), Brown had 490 votes (43.5%) and Bob Burchard had  70 votes (6.2%).
