Gonzales linemen group qualifies for state

The Gonzales Apaches linemen took second place at a recent linemen challenge camp to qualify for the State Lineman Challenge that takes place on June 22 at Hardin Simmons University.
“I am so proud of these young men,” Gonzales Athletic Director Mike Waldie said. “Their battle, effort, and intensity was off the charts.”
The State Lineman Challenge is scheduled to have 11 events, including the forward tire throw, bench press, farmers walk, four-way DB stack, tire flip medley relay, power drive, Private Ryan, sled relay, obstacle course, monster sled and tug of war. Points will be kept for each event with the winning team given the trophy.
Each team will be made up of at least five athletes. Teams are allowed to have as many as they want, but most events allow for five team members to compete at a time.
Competition begins at 9 a.m.
