Gonzales Healthcare foundation hosting 5F event

GONZALES — The Gonzales Healthcare Systems Foundation will be hosting an event to not only raise money for the hospital, but provide Gonzales a casual networking opportunity for its community leaders as well as some fun competition for the cooks involved.

On April 28, the foundation is hosting 5F — Forty Fellas Foodfest Foundation Fundraiser. The event pits 20 duos (the “40 fellas”) against each other in a cooking competition. The 40 fellas include community leaders from all walks of life like the honorary chairman, Dr. Commie Hisey.

“We got a good mix in the community,” Kelly Lindner, the foundation’s executive director said, “between the police chief, the fire chief to our new county judge to a pastor, Jesse Elizondo, we’ve got ranchers and farmers and hunters.”

“I reached out to gentlemen in the community and I was stunned by the response,” Lindner continued. “Everybody wants to participate. The only people that can’t do it that I did ask are people that had conflicts that night.”

There will be dishes varying from gumbo to ribs to bread plus a few surprises.

“We’ll also supplement it with a great grant we got from HEB and have vegetable trays and fruit trays,” Lindner added. “San Ducerro vineyard out of Yoakum is our winery, they are very excited to be a part of this and, of course, our great friends at Spoetzl Brewery are donating Shiner beer and Sage Capital Bank made a donation so we can pay for things like our great aprons that our duos, our “fellas” would be wearing.”

Tickets are $50 per person, with all of the money going to the foundation, Lindner said. The hospital is in the process of remodeling rooms, turning their 12 semi-private rooms to fully-private rooms.

“We continue to strive to create a state-of-the-art hospital for our community and our neighbors and this event will help us do that,” Lindner said.

State Representative John Cyrier donated a constitutional chair to be auctioned off at the event.

“It’s a chair you cannot purchase anywhere,” Lindner explained. “He did indeed buy it for us because he’s a member of the State House of Representatives and we hope to auction it off that night for lots of money.”

Forty Fellas Foodfest Foundation Fundraiser takes place on Saturday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. at thrive. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Those interested can contact the foundation’s page at GonzalesHealthcare.com or call their office at 830-672-7581, ext. 1005.

“This is going to be a great mix of guys, great food, we’re going to have some interesting trophies so someone can have not only a trophy but lots of bragging rights in our community so we hope everyone can come out and join us, Saturday, April 28 at 6:30 at thrive,” Lindner said.
