Gonzales athletes to compete at TAAF state track meet

The Gonzales summer track team will be competing this week at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) Summer Games for track and field at College Station High School. The meet takes place from July 26-29.

Competing in the girls’ 4x100-meter 10-and-under age group is the team of Maddie Blackwell, Tenley Matias, Yesenia Melchor and Timberly Mobbs. They will also compete in the 4x400-meter relay.

In the same age group, Blackwell and Matias will take on the high jump.

In the 12-and-under girls’ group, Kilee Schwausch will compete in the 1600-meter race. She will join Addelyn Escobedo, Amiyah Ibarra and Sophia Torres to form a 4x400-meter relay team. Escobedo and Ibarra will then compete in the shot put event.

In the 16-and-under girls’ competition, Kaylin Ramirez will race in the 1600-meter run. Caitlyn Blundell is competing in the pole vault while Kaitlyn Taylor is a participant in the shot put. Taylor and Stefanie Gonzales will compete in the discus throw.

Competing in the 18-and-under events is recently graduated Haley Garza who will take on the 800-meter run. Garza is also set to compete in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter races.

In the same age group, Alicia Ramirez will be competing in the discus throw.

On the boys side, Jet Doyle will be competing in the eight-and-under group, taking on the high jump event.

Seth Doyle is in shot put for boys 10-and-under.

Running in the 16-and-under events is Antonio Hernandez who will be competing in the 800-meter race. Avery and Avram Almaguer will join Hernandez to compete in the 1600-meter race.

Recently graduated Juan Jordan is signed up for competition too, taking on the 100-meter dash for the 18-and-under age group. Zac Davis will be running the 200-meter dash in the same age group.

Jordan, proving once again he’s a multi-event athlete, will also be competing in the 110-meter hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and the triple jump.
