Our dearly beloved Gladys Marie Williams departed this life on June 16, 2018. She was the second of 8 siblings, born July 4, 1937 to Tom and Irma Lee. She accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at St. James Baptist Church in the Peach Creek Community. She attended Dilworth and Shiner public schools.

Gladys later became a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church where she was a faithful and dedicated member serving in the choir as the junior class Sunday school and VBS teacher, BTU director, church clerk, and on the culinary-hospitality committee. She served as president of the women’s mission ministry where she was a continuous contributor of encouragement to weekly discussion topics related to spiritual growth until her death. Gladys also enjoyed traveling with the church on a wide variety of activities that consisted of spiritual empowerment and recreational activities.

She was employed by the Kuntschik family, the Akers family, Caraway Food, GISD-North Avenue and East Avenue school cafeterias, and was a transportation monitor at Disciples Christian Center.

She possessed a wide variety of cooking skills that consist of barbecuing, cooking, baking, and canning fruits and vegetables. Many friends and loved ones will reminisce on the canning and baking she often shared with everyone. She also enjoyed quilting and sewing.

Gladys is preceded in death by her parents Tom and Irma Lee; brother, Tom Lee Jr.; and sister, Josie Mitchell. She leaves to ever cherish her memories her loving husband, Square Lee Williams of 53 years; children, Lorine and Joe Henderson of Seguin, Wayne Chapman of San Antonio, Karen Williams of Austin, Lonnie Williams of Austin, Charlie and Danielle Williams of Evansville, Ind., and Gena Williams of Austin; grandchildren, Hattie and Vernell Dolberry, Joe and Christian Henderson, Joanna Henderson and Brandon Williams; two great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; siblings, Dessie and Albert Lampkin of San Antonio, Georgia Johnson of San Antonio, Lyndon and Doris Lee of Shiner, Annie Lee of San Antonio, and Ben Lee of San Antonio; and a host of nieces, nephews, her church family, other relatives and friends.

Gladys lived an exemplary Christian life. She loved worship and serving people. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 121:1-2, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” Gladys will truly be missed by her Mt. Pilgrim Church family and all who loved her.

A viewing will be held Friday, June 22 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, 127 Highway 90A, Gonzales, 78629. Funeral services are Saturday, June 23 at 10 a.m. at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, 1020 St. Andrew St., Gonzales, Texas 78629.
