GJH UILthespians to perform Olympiaganza at local festival

Gonzales Junior High School will host two public performances of this year’s UIL One act play, Olympiaganza, next weekend.

Olympiaganza is a Greek mythology, by Don Zolidis, in which two battling narrators attempt to cover the entirety of Greek mythology using audience participation, and general theatrical insanity. Creation myths such as Pandora's Box and Cronos and the Titans jostle for space with other famous myths like Jason and the Argonauts. The play culminates with a heart-pounding, five-minute, version of The Iliad.

The play will premiere at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, December 8 and be performed again during the Gonzales Jr. High School One Act Play Festival at 1 p.m., on Saturday, December 9. Both performances will be in the GJH auditorium.

Two other schools are set to compete at the festival, including Cuero Jr. High (Roomers, at 2 p.m.), and Industrial Jr. High (Pearl of Pultritudia, at 3 p.m.).

The Gonzales Jr. High Greek Mythology Olympiaganza company is comprised of: Jacob Bakken, Brady Barfield, Kinley Cernosek, Ben DeMent, Daniel Garcia, Ruby Hamilton, Mary Heckendorf, Jacob Holden, Gladiola Lekgega, Michael Mariscal, Gabby Medel, Kelli Moen, Paige Null, Monica Ruedas and Jewel Short.
