The Gonzales Independent School District has reported a third case of COVID-19, this time at Gonzales Elementary School.

The district said the student was last on campus Friday, Oct. 9, in a statement posted to its website (https://www.gonzalesisd.net).

Here is that statement:

"Early this morning, Monday, October 12, 2020, GISD learned that a student at Gonzales Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19. The student was last on campus on Friday, October 9, 2020. The district is making contact with those who came into “close contact” with the student.
As you may be aware, there are strict guidelines that prohibit District personnel from providing confidential information about the health conditions of a student. For the privacy and dignity of those involved, we cannot disclose further information. However, the Gonzales Elementary staff members have taken precautions to disinfect as directed, and all staff members on the campus continue to follow the safety protocols to protect the health and safety of everyone at school. If you have any questions, please contact your doctor.
We will continue to work with our staff members, parents, and students to keep everyone healthy and safe. If your child is ill or being tested for COVID-19, please notify your campus office and campus nurse. We cannot stress enough, the importance of our students consistently wearing facial coverings as required. Face coverings assist in limiting others from being exposed or coming in contact with illnesses. As previously stated, please ensure face coverings are clean. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

Measures such as contact tracing, cleaning, as well as guidance for parents when a student is exposed to or contracts an illness can be found in the district's Return to School Guidance document. District PR director Robin Trojack said this is a working document updated when new guidance is provided by agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control, Texas Education Agency and local health officials. Other resources on the district website include informational videos regarding nurse and cleaning protocols.

"Parents are also encouraged to reach out to their child(ren)'s campus nurse as well," Trojack said. "They are aware of the plan and can guide and assist parents as needed. They are there to help."
