GISD adopts new calendar, presents budget at special meeting

At a special called meeting of the Gonzales Independent School District Board of Trustees on Monday, August 17, the board voted to adopt a new calendar for the 2020-2021 school year which accounts for the loss of one week of attendance.

Public Education Information Management Systems Coordinator Sarah Gottwald said the new calendar was made possible by moving around staff development days, removing the designated holiday for this year’s canceled Come and Take It, as well as making Good Friday a bad weather day.

The district said it postponed the start of school due to a late delivery of the Chromebooks it has purchased for each student from third through twelfth grades, as well as the safety of students and staff.

A presentation of the proposed 2020-2021 budget for GISD was also presented to the board at the meeting and will be voted on at the next meeting of the Board of Trustees on Monday, August 24.

Other agenda items which were considered at the meeting of the GISD Board of Trustees included:

  • Budget amendments, primarily regarding work on the sprinkler system at Gonzales High School, which may increase in cost depending on whether a civil engineer will need to be hired.
